About Me
Isabel Norwood is an experienced music teacher and professional musician specialising in double bass, cello, violin and ukulele. She has taught students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners through to Grade VIII, in schools, private settings and community music programmes.
Since 2020, Isabel has taught instrumental lessons in schools as well as offering private tuition. She enjoys helping students develop both their technical skills and their confidence, and prepares learners for graded examinations, performances and other musical opportunities.
Alongside individual tuition, Isabel has experience leading ensembles and group classes, including a choir for older adults, primary, preschool and baby groups. She is particularly interested in creating supportive, enjoyable learning environments where students can progress at their own pace and develop a lasting enthusiasm for music.
Isabel previously taught at an international school, working with students aged 11–18 within the International Baccalaureate curriculum. She holds a BA (Hons) in Music from the University of Southampton. Her teaching qualifications include a PGCE, dipABRSM in Instrumental Teaching (Double Bass) and training with the British Kodály Academy.

Isabel is an experienced performer. She has played with orchestra's in Southampton and in Dublin and is currently a proud member of the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra. Isabel has also played double bass in a baroque orchestra, as cellist in a string quartet and on viola da gamba in a baroque trio sonata group.
Philosophy

At the heart of Isabel's teaching is always inclusivity. Her diverse experience has allowed her to work with learners from a range of backgrounds and ability levels. She is experienced working with neurodiversity and other SEND and tailors all resources to suit the individual's need.
Isabel's training with the British Kodaly Academy has taught her that musicianship is central to all musical learning regardless of level and experience, and is central to all teaching.
